Supergirl (2015)
Supergirl is an American television series developed by Ali
Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, that airs on CBS. It is based on the
DC Comics character Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) created by Otto Binder and Al
Plastino, and stars Melissa Benoistas the title character. By leaning into its earnestness, Supergirl delivers moments
of clear, smile-inducing joy. Amidst this age of gloom-and-doom superheroes,
Supergirl has no fear of being happy, hopeful, and bright, something that's
true to the character that writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino created
for DC Comics in 1959. And there's something courageous in that daring pursuit.
The result is one of the scrappiest and most irresistible shows on television
this season.

Toph Beifong - Avatar the Last Airbender
Toph Beifong is
one of the main characters in Avatar the Last Airbender. A rich, blind
daughter; she learns how to earth-bend from a group of badger moles. From this,
she overcomes her blind disability by seeing through detecting objects and
people through vibrations she feels through her feet. She has also developed a
keen sense of hearing. Toph goes on a journey with the Avatar to teach him earthbending
skills and learns how to metal bend (the purest form of Earth) in the process.
Having been
born into a prestigious family, Toph was expected to act as according to her
noble status; well-mannered and proper. However, she overturns this expected
role becoming a most formidable opponent/ally, choosing a rougher attitude over
a gentle demeanor and having a sense of humour that pokes fun at herself. She
cares little for her appearance since she cannot see and this makes Toph an
incredibly important female representative as her character is shown to
overturn the female stereotypes yet she can still be one of the most loved
people in the series.

In the early years of The Oprah Winfrey Show, the program was

tabloid-oriented format, hosting shows on broader topics such as heart disease,
geopolitics, spirituality and meditation, interviewing celebrities on social
issues they were directly involved with, such as cancer, charity work, or
substance abuse, and hosting televised giveaways including shows where every

Clarke Griffin - The 100
Despite the fact that it is set in a future apocalyptical world. The Clarke portrayed by Eliza Taylor is a great role model and a leader that steps us despite still being in her teen. As her ultimate goal is to just save her friends and look out for her people. An admirable quality to have in a great friend. Within the series her character has been left open ended in her sexuality. We have seen this through her relationship with Finn and Lexa.
Also the shows hasn’t centralised on these issues rather, they hint and explore the fact that an individuals sexuality is not necessarily found with a certain type of woman. Also, that this is just one of the qualities she possesses, will still being able to juggle more important things, such as the safety of her friends lives.
Ai Enma – Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)
“Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two
graves.” – Confucius
Ai is the
protagonist or even anti-heroine of the anime series Hell Girl. The series focuses
on various people who wish to send another person to hell. To do this, they
must access the Hells Corresponding Website at midnight and enter the person’s
name they wish to send to Hell. Ai will then proceed to accept the request if
she believes the hatred to be strong enough and will present to the client a
straw doll with a red ribbon. Following the Confucius saying, Ai must warn the
client that if they pull the red ribbon, not only will their selected person be
sent to Hell but a mark will appear on the client’s body as a permanent
reminder that they too will be sent to Hell.
Ai takes on a
very emotionless persona and proceeds with her work efficiently without any
remorse. She does not discriminate between her cases and does not bother to gauge
the morality of the act; whether or not it is deserving for a person to be sent
to Hell. It is for this reason she can be perceived as an anti-heroine since if
there is enough hatred against an innocent person, that person will still be
sent to Hell by the clients request.
It is important
to note that Ai was once a human who due to an unfortunate series of events
made a pact with the Master of Hell. She still has feelings that reside within
her however they are suppressed at the Master’s command. Due to the events of
her previous life, she holds a lot of anger and empathizes with some of her
clients for their need for revenge however she chooses not to show it.
