Yoon Baek-Hee - "Dream High"

Played by Hahm Eun-Jung who is an idol singer and actress, the role of Yoon Baek-Hee in Dream High is incredibly complicated as she displays characteristics of the innocent best friend and antagonist throughout the series. Dream High is about a group of students entering Koreas most prestigious school for the arts; Kirin Arts High School.

Before (Beginning of series)
After (During the series)

Baek-Hee admires and respects her best friend Hye-Mi who aims to be an opera singer, so much so that she copies the trademark braids that Hye-Mi wears. After a few complications and misunderstandings, Baek-Hee is led to believe she has been betrayed by her best friend and strives to beat her in the pop music industry. The harsh reality of the entertainment world causes a dramatic change in Baek-Hee, leading her to become manipulative and condescending towards those she believes of lesser talent than her.

Having gone through a number of complications, Eunjung’s character experiences a lot of changes turning her from an innocent character, to a villain, to a victim. Overall Eunjung’s ability to express the different faces goes to show the audience how vulnerable a woman can be as well as how fierce.

Kaylee Fry - Firefly

Despite the show’s short run, having only 14 episodes. There are many great attributes to be found in the short lived show. Kaylee being one of them, portrayed by by actress Jewel Staite. Already gaining her position on the spaceship as the mechanic by outsmarting the previously hired male mechanic. With no formal training but a love and passion, for fixing things that takes her to many places.

She also has a geeky sister like quality, and is also is the most lovable and affectionate of the characters. Which shouldn’t always be overlooked, where her Captain fails to acknowledge this. She occasionally loves being girly from time to time. Empowering woman to break down stereotypes that girls can both have a love of getting their hands dirty while also making yourself look dolled up.

Yuri Nakamura - Angel Beats!

A story set in the Afterlife, Yuri Nakamura is one of the main protagonists in “Angel Beats!” and becomes the founder and leader of the organisation “After War Front” (The organisation’s name occasionally changing throughout the series) which acts as a rebellion against God.

Having suffered a series of horrific events in her life, Yuri blames her misfortune on God and aims to fight against him in the so-called afterlife she is sent to. As a charismatic leader, her subordinates hold deep respect and trust for her, even going as far as giving up their lives (though no one can really die). This is a result of her ability to empathize with others and her tendency to take on large roles of responsibility. She is straightforward in her speech, sometimes appearing to be blunt however she tries to humor the situation of the Afterlife. She loves laughing like a villain when things go her way and she doesn’t hesitate to input a black humor joke about death when the opportunity arises.

She is capable of commanding units and strategizing, often collecting data to analyze in order to combat Angel, God’s so-called representative. Her strengths don’t just stop there, as she cannot be forgotten as one of the strongest characters in the series. She carries around an automatic pistol as well as two short knives being able to use both in close combat where she excels at being able to fight hand-to-hand. She also appears to have some skill at sniping as shown in episode 1.

Hand-to-hand combat

Yuri’s character is used to view the philosophical questions about the fairness of life. Her lead as a female depicts the weakness of humans against unavoidable events and it shows the scale of her rage against God. It is her female attributes that make her so important to the series as her cause of reason would not be believable enough without it.

The storyline of the plot is a little hard to understand so down below is the promotional video for Angel Beats!
